HAINES, Earl Fremont

Mellott, Nov 1 – Earl Fremont Haines, 53 of near Mellott was found dead at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Mellott lumber years of which he was manager. He had gone there to take inventory before the yard closed for the duration of the war. Mr. Haines was found by Clarence Hurley, his cousin of Veedersburg. The cause of his death was given as heart trouble. Mr. Haines was born in Crawford County, Illinois and moved to Fountain County when he was a small boy. In 1926 he married Bernice Carpenter, and they moved to Mellott in 1938 when he became manager of the lumber yard. Mr. Haines was a member of the Congregational-Christian Church. Surviving are the wife; a sister; Mrs. Clara Gulley, Indianapolis; and a brother, Byrl Haines, Lafayette. The body was taken to the Crumley & Son Funeral Home and will be removed to the residence Monday. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Congregational Christian Church, Rev. CP Strawmyer officiating; burial in Rose Hill cemetery. - kbz
